What you think?

Godfather

Mrs. Irish here. I’m delighted to see you posting. You were a colorful addition to Totsville III and I look forward to seeing you at the next Goldbugz event, whenever and whereever it may be. Don’t worry about not being a super chartist or anything. We need to hear from regular people (like me!), too.
I miss my Irish but he’s coming home early. It’s too quiet around here! And tonight I’ll be making his oatmeal for church tomorrow….it just won’t be the same, I don’t have his heavy hand with the butter and half and half!
Hi to everyone else. I am peeking occasionally but I’ll wait until Irish is home to ask the dumb questions. Everyone have a safe and fun fourth.

Heloooo Paradise..great group here today/tonite

….and dont forget..

There is only a relatively small group of investors who very seriously believe that there is a high level of risk that the (financial) system could break down. You only need a relatively small group to believe this to move the price of gold.” In other words, the metal’s price behavior reflects the trivial obsessions of a discredited fraction of investment opinion.

US terminates duty-free tariffs for Indian gold jewellery

30 June 2007
New Delhi: The US government has terminated the ‘generalised system of preference’ (GSP) - duty-free tariff regime for India’s exports of gold jewellery and brass lamps.
The GSP regime allows the US Government to extend preferential tariff arrangements for select countries, according to reports from Washington. (See: US reduces trade benefits for India, Brazil)

Consequently, these exports would attract import tariff applicable for exports from other countries engaged in the same trade.

Duty-free imports into the US under the GSP accounted for $32.6 billion worth of goods from developing countries in 2006, according to the reports.

India shipped gold jewellery worth $1.6 billion and $20 million worth of brass lamps under the GSP programme in the first 10 months of 2006. Along with India, Brazil and some other developing countries have also been targeted under a programme revamped late last year by the US Congress.

Indian jewellery exports will now attract 6.5 per cent duty in the US.

Out of the total jewellery purchased by US from various countries, Indian jewellery accounts for 33.2 per cent, according to GJEPC News, published on the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (Council) Web site.

Vasant Mehta, vice-chairman of the council said the effect of this could be that Indian jewellery may lose some business to China.

Been reading GE/GT since before y2k.  I’m afraid “short” and infrequent posts will be my “hallmark” in Paradise –Truth is I have nothing to offer in terms of investment knowledge although I have become quite adept at covering “margin calls” this past year or so and as you might guess, that knowledge is a bit painful to share.

First Stevie Nicks, and now Gordon Lightfoot… dang, man, you’re sending me to iTunes again to reload my iPod!   “Sundown” and “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” were my favs by Gordon.  I still remember that storm, the night the Edmund Fitz went down.  I was plying the highway in Northern Wisconsin.  Two ruts in the icy sleet… “in the face of a hurricane west wind.”  Sheesh!

Thanks for the warm welcome and best wishes.  Must admit to feeling somewhat “accomplished” in being able to post..Owe it to one of the finest gentlemen I (or you) will ever come accross….took me by the hand and here I am..I AM EMPOWERED!!! THANK YOU FULLY!!!

Hi Godfather

Hello, good to see you posting a little.  Wish we could have told a few more stories at Tottsville, so much excitement, so little time.  All the best

The inevitability of $2000+ gold-from the Great Privateer

As reported in the Early July Issue (Number 581 - published on July 1), the Bank for International Settlements has come out with an extraordinary warning. Its annual report baldly states that global loose monetary policy has set the world up for a re-run of the 1930s. It has also warned that what it calls “default rates” (interest rates NOT controlled by Central Banks) will BEGIN (yes - “BEGIN”) to rise. Given the global level of indebtedness, the BIS clearly sees what has already taken place, especially in the US, as the merest prelude.

It is clear that Central Banks have lost control of the credit creation mechanism. That has passed to the leveraged debt derivative arena where well over $US 500 TRILLION in such paper is washing around. It is equally clear that no Central Bank, least of all the Fed, dares to raise their official rates to the extent required to even slow down, let alone choke off, this out of control debt frenzy.

In such circumstances, it is as certain as anything yet to take place can be that the “post Greenspan” era is going to be a re-run of the “post Martin” era of the 1970s. As already documented, the starting point today has been so degraded from what it was then that the certain economic implosion to come will be much worse. The best thing that could possibly come out of it would be the death knell of the fiat currency era, just as the 1970s was the (temporary) death knell of Gold as money.

Every currency collapse in history, whatever its magnitude and whatever its longevity, has in the end reached the point that only one “cure” was possible. That cure has ALWAYS been either the re-establishment or the re-introduction of GOLD as the MONEY. Ultimately, that will be the “cure” this time too.

What do Gordon Lightfoot (famous folk singer) and Stephen Leacock (esteemed humourist) have in common ??          They both resided in a small city 90 minutes north of Toronto and only 30 minutes from my house.  To find out the name of the city, just click on the URL

Hi, Godfather!

Don’t be a stranger.

Horse & the Midget… just fun for the 4 th

A guy calls his buddy, the horse rancher, and says he’s sending a
friend over to look at a horse. His buddy asks “How will I recognize
him?” That’s easy, he’s a midget with a speech impediment.” So, the
midget shows up, and the guy asks him if he’s looking for a male or
female horse. “A female horth.” So he shows him a prized filly.  “Nith
lookin horth. Can I thee her eyeth”? So the guy picks up the midget and
he gives the horse’s eyes the once over. “Nith eyeth, can I thee her
earzth”? So he picks the little fella up again, and shows him the
horse’s ears. “Nith earzth, can I see her mouf”? The rancher is gettin’
pretty ticked off by this point, but he picks him up again and shows him
the horse’s mouth. “Nice mouf, can I see her twat”? Totally mad as fire
at this point, the rancher grabs him under his arms and rams the
midget’s head as far as he can up the horse’s twat, pulls him out and
slams him on the ground. The midget gets up, sputtering and coughing.
“Perhapth I should rephraths that; Can I thee her wun awound a widdlebit”?
